PyConFR 2024 transparency report
PyCon France (PyConFR) is a conference that takes place every year (except in exceptional circumstances) in France. This year, it took place from October 31 to November 3 in Strasbourg, gathering people from the Python community. Participants of the conference are required to respect the Code of Conduct of the Association Francophone Python, the association that organizes the event.
The purpose of this document is to improve the welcome and safety of participants and to give the organizers indicators on the behavior of the community. Indeed, in order to hear, one must be able to listen. It has become standard practice for organizations with a Code of Conduct to publish a transparency report following a conference. That is the purpose of this document.
Practical Information
For the Sprint Days (Thursday and Friday)
Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and tea and coffee will be available. Security personnel will conduct a visual check of bags and luggage.
For lunch, there are various restaurants, bakeries, and stores around the campus where you can grab food to go and eat at the university.
Friday Evening
We have a large table reserved at La Lanterne starting at 7:30 p.m.
Feel free to stop by to chat with other conference attendees, grab a bite, or enjoy a drink.

For lunch, there will be two food trucks:
- Coïncidence: Pulled pork burgers (with a vegetarian option) and roasted potatoes
- Kantina: Greek street food
Saturday Evening
For those who signed up for the Saturday evening event, we’ll meet at 7:30 p.m. at Le Petit Tigre.
For the Entire Event
In an effort to be environmentally friendly, we won’t be providing water bottles or eco-cups. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle. Also, if you've attended a previous PyConFR and still have your lanyard, please bring it along!
The AFPy Discord will be the primary means of communication for questions or other inquiries during the conference. We recommend using the general channel, which is connected to the IRC channel.
Throughout PyConFR (including Friday and Saturday nights), the AFPy Code of Conduct (https://www.pycon.fr/2024/en/conduct.html) will be in effect. A dedicated team will be available to handle any issues. If you experience or witness anything concerning, please reach out to a team member or an organizer. The team can also be reached by email (diversite@afpy.org) or phone (+33 7 56 85 03 57).
Call for Volunteers
We’re still looking for volunteers to assist during the event, whether it’s welcoming attendees, coordinating sessions, or helping with setup and cleanup.
If interested, please express your interest on this Discourse thread.
Schedule and Registration
The PyConFR 2024 schedule is available!
As always, PyConFR is a free event, and registration is mandatory.
The first two days of the conference will be dedicated to sprints, while the following two days will be reserved for talks (long and short) and workshops.
Three keynotes are also scheduled:
- De villageoise à l’itWoman… Quelles actions pour faire de mon rêve TECH une réalité ?, by Houleymatou Baldé
- Recherche des bonnes pratiques de packaging, by Françoise Conil
- Reality is not an end-to-end prediction problem: Applied NLP in the age of Generative AI, by Ines Montani.
This year, a children’s area (for ages 3 to 12) will be available free of charge upon registration. You can register your children until October 15th.
This edition also marks the return of the PyLadies Lunch. This free lunch aims to bring together women (cis and trans), trans men, non-binary or agender people who work with Python. Its goal is to help them become active members and leaders in the community. Another objective is to strengthen ties between the PyLadies community and the rest of the French-speaking Python community.
Registration for PyLadies Lunch is opened until October 27th.
On Sunday morning, the AFPy will hold its general assembly. If you wish to vote, make sure you are up to date with your membership dues.
CFP and Financial Assistance Openings
The PyConFR 2024 CFP (Call For Proposal) is now open!
The CFP allows you to propose your topics for sprints, conferences and workshops.
You can submit your proposals until July 21, 2024. At the end of the open period, AFPy Steering Committee members will review all proposals and the timetable can be put together!
You can propose topics in French or English. As AFPy promotes the Python language to the French-speaking community, we are keen to keep the majority of the program in French (~80%).
Following feedback from the previous edition, you can indicate the level of the target audience for your proposals, as well as the language in which you will be presenting. This will enable us to include the information in the program and avoid any disappointments :).
Financial assistance applications are also open!
As we do every year, we're offering financial assistance to help students and people who can't afford to come to PyConFR.
You can apply by e-mail to our treasurer (tresorier@afpy.org). Please see the Financial Assistance page for details of how to apply.
Applications are open until September 30, 2024.
⚠️ After these dates, we will no longer accept subject proposals or financial assistance applications.
PyConFR 2024
The 2024 edition of the francophone community's conference on Python will be held in Strasbourg from October 31th to November 3rd 2024.
The first two days are reserved for participative coding sessions. Developers from different open source projects come to code together. Everyone is welcome to contribute, and we seek to guide beginners. We provide the space and environment (tables, chairs, internet connection... and coffee!). Represented projects will be announced on our site as they register.
During the two following days, you will have the opportunity to attend presentations on various topics, about the Python programming language, its use cases, good practice, feedback, shared ideas…
This event is hosted by the Université of Strasbourg. Thanks to them :).
We ask everyone wishing to come to read the code of conduct. We want this conference to be a welcoming event for everyone. AFPy working group is mobilized to make everyone feel good during the conference. Actions will be announced.
If you already want to organize your journey, we have prepared the Venue page.
We have several other announcements for you in the coming weeks, so follow us on Mastodon and Twitter.
